These products make it easier for a parent to go about their daily tasks with a stronger peace of mind knowing that when their child is walking home from school. Their child has the equipment necessary to thwart these predators the lurk around us. To allow their child to mingle with other children at outings and enjoy being a child. While this discussion is viewed as scary or may seem overwhelming to you at first. Begin with small excersises.
Do the following:
- Ask your child what a stranger is?
- Why should they avoid them?
- Ask them why they believe you are talking about strangers and unsafe situations.
- What should they do if approached by a stranger?
- Should they keep secrets from you?
- Explain to them that telling you about things that make them uncomfortable is Not tattle telling!
- Ask them what they should do if they are away from home and have gotten lost.
Begin letting your child express themselves. Example if you ask for a kiss from your child tell them it is ok if they do not want to give you a kiss. This allows them to feel fully comfortable with telling what they do and don’t want. If they cannot tell you no then there is very little chance they will tell a stranger no.
Allow them to give you a full answer without interrupting them. Then input on their responses.
The next steps is why you are out with your child make it a point to ask them to observe their surroundings and point out things that do not appear to be safe.
- Ask them why this situation or area does not appear safe.
- Give them compliments or small rewards when they respond.
Doing these small things are a great start to educating your child and empowering them to speak their minds. Which will give your child a great head start in becoming a outspoken and confident child.
