Child Abduction - Safety AwarnessChild Abduction and Safety Awarness Information and Tips

Things to do first before you begin talking to your child about child abduction and safety awareness

Check the website below for a listing of registered offenders around your child’s school, and your home. Knowing who these potential predators are is extremely important.

The National Alert Registry
https://www.nationalalertregistry.com/  this site has pictures and information of offenses and addresses. ( It is not recommended to contact these individuals yourself)

Develop a family code word that will allow your child to know if this person is someone that is safe to pick them up in emergencies. (make sure your child knows this code word and is told to keep it very safe and secret.)

Know your child’s weakness. If he/she is a people pleaser. If they are distracted easily or a child that wanders off occasionally. Know what areas are the greatest threat! Begin with these areas.

DO NOT MAKE THESE TEACHINGS APPEAR TO BE HOMEWORK. HAVE FUN AND REWARD OFTEN! Your child will retain more when they are having fun!

Purchase a Safetyn Kit and follow the instructions in the kit to maximize your purchase. Use the tools in the kit to “tag” your child’s belongings they use most often.

Make sure anyone who cares for your child or may be a Emergency Contact has at least a parent I.D. card of your child. This is very important in the event of a medical emergency or if your child gets lost.

Talk to your child about what a stranger is. Also what they should never do under no circumstances, event if they know the person:

  • never get into anyone’s car without permission, even if you know them.
  • never play in areas where there is not many people. Or in buildings that are not occupied
  • never say they are alone if they answer the phone. Offer to take a message or say their parents will phone back.
  • not invite anyone in the house without the permission of a parent or babysitter.
  • never answer the door if they are alone.
  • Leave the house without permission.
  • Unlock any window without locking it back or telling a parent.
  • not go into people’s houses without letting anyone know where they are.
  • not take candy or other gifts from strangers or anyone else without asking a parent first.
  • move away from a car that pulls up beside them.
  • scream and scatter books and belongings if they are forced towards a building or car.
  • be taught that it’s all right to say ‘no’ to an adult if the person wants them to do something you’ve taught them is wrong.
  • know that no one has the right to touch any part of their bodies that a bathing suit would cover.
  • tell you, or a teacher or police officer about anyone who exposes private parts.
  • go to the nearest person behind a counter if lost or separated from you in a store or mall.
  • tell you if someone has asked them to keep a secret from you.
